About the Position: This position is for a Lock and Dam Repairer Leader, WL-5318-10, at the Illinois Waterway Project, Maintenance Section, located in Peoria, Illinois.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Lock and Dam Repairer Leader without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out, applicants should document experience and/or show the ability to perform common maintenance and repair tasks as a member of a team that provides maintenance and repair services including but not limited to: heavy mobile equipment, welding, cutting, fabricating, sandblasting, painting; leadership experience involving repair and maintenance or construction activities and can lead groups of workers to accomplish tasks on time. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Lead or Supervise Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Trouble Shooting Physical Effort: Work requires continual physical effort in the handling of equipment and tools, while working from scaffolds, standing, stooping, bending, climbing, working overhead, etc. Uses coordination of eyes, hands, and feet, and also of legs and body in installing, repairing, or testing equipment in confined areas such as manholes. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. On occasion, may be required to lift and carry items or materials weighing in excess of 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside during the day and at night, as required, on high structures over water that is frequently turbulent, in the proximity of moving machinery and high tension electrical wires and on scaffolds or slings. Occasionally, works behind bulkheads or in tunnels below water level. Is subject to falls, drowning, electrical shocks, injury and discomfort, burns, exposure to moving equipment, machinery, loud noises, inclement weather, and dangerous icy conditions. Employees are required to observe established safe working procedures. Appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment is provided to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory.
